When it comes to contacting an auto transport company for help in delivering goods, they increasingly focus on the cost of services. But the difficulties with automobile documents are easily forgotten by everyone. Although they are of great importance, you will be able to deal with the delivery much faster with the knowledge of what papers you should prepare in advance. Let’s finally make your life easier and find out what is needed and what is not!
What car documents are needed for transportation?
There are several points shipping companies check before approving a contract with you. They are divided depending on the distance, namely, whether the cargo will cross the border or remain in the United States.
Within the United States, you will need to present:
1) Originals of the car (model, brand, where bought and registered).
Regardless of which vehicle you intend to transfer – a truck, a car, a motorcycle (some even move a house), you will need to demonstrate that you know all the general and specific information about the object. You must have documents confirming your ownership, or at least the right to hold the property (with permission from the owner).
2) Insurance.
You should ensure your car against damage and accidents. At the same time, it is essential that the document is valid and you do not worry that the contract expires soon.
3) Identity documents.
Before issuing you an auto transport receipt, the company must obtain proof that you are who you say you are. Passport of any country and driver’s license – any document will do.
4) A letter from the owner (if it happened that according to the documents, the cargo belongs to another person, or if you entrusted this business to someone).
Ask the transport owner to write a letter according to a unique sample, then certify and provide the carrier company. The letter must include:
- The vehicle identification number (VIN).
- The owner’s name.
- The name of the person involved in the transportation.
When moving to another country, you will need to present:
1) Rights to the delivered property.
In this case, it will no longer be possible to show a power of attorney from the Pledgee. You need to single-handedly own the property or certify permission from a notary and in triplicate.
2) Insurance.
Proof of cargo insurance is a must. Here it would be best if you did the same as with insurance within the United States. Otherwise, the vehicle transport bill of lading will not be issued.
3) Identification data.
The exact requirements are necessary when traveling in the United States, except for showing your passport.
4) Bill of lading form for car transport.
You must show the documents for buying a car. Otherwise, the cargo will be deployed at the border and sent back.
5) Documents for the payment of taxes.
Documents that prove that you are not a debtor to the state play a decisive role. This is the only way at the border they will understand that sending property to another country has nothing to do with an attempt to hide it.
6) Import duties.
It would be best if you showed that you had paid the mandatory fees to enter another country.
